Motorway Police Installs Advanced Speed Cameras on M5 Motorway
The surveillance equipment consists of advanced speed cameras that capture sharp and detailed images of the overspeeding vehicle for the authorities to take prompt action.
The cameras have reportedly been placed on various key-spots of the M5 motorway that will monitor the traffic 24/7 and capture the images of the vehicles that are observed overspeeding or being driven recklessly.
The entire system operates automatically, such that if a car is found overspeeding or breaking traffic rules on the motorway, the system shall deduct the challan from the driver by itself.
It bears mentioning here that M5 Multan to Sukkur Motorway is not only the longest national highway in the country but has also been declared one of the most important projects of the China Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The 392 km long M5 motorway costs about Rs. 2.89 billion. The motorway passes through Multan Shujaabad, Jalalpur Pirwala, Uch Sharif near Bahawalpur, Ahmadpur Sharqiya, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Obaro, Ghotki, and Panu Aqil in Sindh and ends near Rohri in Sukkur.
Traveling from Multan to Sukkur via Motorway M5 can save the commuters 75 kilometers of extra travel. Traveling continuously on the said route without any brakes can also save the commuters 3 hours of journey, bringing the travel time from 6 hours to 3 hours.
The project was inaugurated back on September 22, 2019. Preparations are also underway to start construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, which is the next leg of the project set to commence this year.
